Finally, the week long ferry strike in Greece suspended. The Pan-Hellenic Seamen’ s Federation (PNO) on Saturday morning suspended the ferry strike. Greek ferries are expected to immediately begin their operation connecting mainland and Greek island ports. The strike was initially scheduled to end on Sunday, December 10 at 6am.

The end of the seamen’ s actions comes after a meeting with the Greek shipping minister Panagiotis Kouroublis on Friday and increasing tension between seamen and businesses across Greece.

PNO representatives told the press that they were not completely satisfied with the government’s reassurances concerning their taxation regime and that not all of their demands were met. They said they suspended their strike because they did not wish to cause further problems  to the public and businesses.

Passengers wishing to travel are advised to contact local port authorities for information as extra routes have been scheduled to take place over the weekend in addition to scheduled routes.
